Slicing the Grocery Bill in Half

MenuShoppers Savings Tips:

BudgetThe average family spends $771 per month on groceries.   That’s about $180 per week.  Did you know that you can save nearly half on your grocery bill with smart buying and purchasing store brand items?

Okay, we all know that knock-offs aren’t always the best buy.  Sometimes you just can’t match brand name taste and quality.  However, if you do not experiment with various store brand items, you will never know which ones hold up and which ones don’t.  For me, store brand peanut butter never tastes as good as Jiffy.  Store brand sloppy joes….same thing.  But here is the thing, if you are making something where that ingredient is the star of the show, maybe saving pennies isn’t the foremost priority.  But if you are making a casserole, or mixing several ingredients, store brand knock-offs fit the bill quite nicely.  And frankly, Kraft’s Mac n’ Cheese isn’t that great.  But the knock-off…..better!

My rant is over.  Bottom line, to save money, you sometimes have to experiment and take risks.  Some pay off, and some don’t.  But over time, isn’t saving nearly half your current grocery budget worth it?
